WHY DOES MYRIAD PRODUCE IN BATCHES?
Traditional fashion players produce clothing in a ‘stack em high, sell em low’ style. A high stakes guessing game which often leads to clothing waste. Up to 30% of global stock goes unused.
At Myriad we want to shake this up. By taking pre-orders for batches, we’re championing agile production cycles by connecting demand directly to production.
We don’t make it if you don’t demand it.
BY PRODUCING CLOTHING, AREN'T MYRIAD CONTRIBUTING TO OVERPRODUCTION?
We see our demand-led pre-order model as the necessary change in system, versus just asking people to do less.
People have been calling for an end of fast fashion for a long time now, but when COVID essentially halted sales overnight, we saw big social & economic problems highlighting the fragility of the conventional fashion system. Companies were left with unsold stock, seasonal trends etc.
It’s not just the responsibility of customers to buy less, it’s the responsibility of producers to challenge the status quo.
ISN'T SUSTAINABILITY ENOUGH?
You can only go so far with traditional sustainability approach, e.g. reducing water use, reducing energy use, reducing chemical use etc. But if you don’t completely address the overproduction and the actual use of the clothing, then you are still churning through resources that don't get put back into the system.
At Myriad, we aim to eliminate overproduction at the start and offer an alternative to landfill at the end via our two-way supply chain. We champion a circular economy approach.
WHY MYRIAD?
Myriad definition: a countless or extremely great number of people or things.
Our garments are designed with the idea of extended and multiple lifecycles front of mind. We can achieve this through a collaborative approach of repair, reuse, remanufacture, and resale - in a word, ‘regeneration’.
Myriad refers to our vision for countless lifecycles in a circular system.
