The power of pre-orders

Creating the conditions for circularity

Circularity in fashion cannot happen under the current model. Even shifting to ‘conscious’ materials fails to address the larger problem at hand: overproduction. Why? Because up to 30% of clothes produced globally are never sold. And a further 30% only sells via heavy discounts.

To create the conditions for circularity we must tackle waste at the start of the journey. That means taking a more responsible approach to slow down the flow of materials.

introducing pre-orders

At Myriad, our first weapon is pre-orders. We operate without inventory to eliminate overproduction from the start. If you don’t order it, we don’t produce it, simple as that.

Through pre-orders, we can towards more agile production cycles by connecting demand directly to production.

Demand-led batches

At Myriad, we’re not afraid to ask you questions. In fact we think that’s the best way. It allows us to create batches of garments based on your survey responses.

We call this demand-led fashion.

Changing our relationships with clothes

Once you’ve pre-ordered, the wait period is usually around 4-5 weeks. A bit of a change from 1-day prime delivery! But this slowing of fashion offers an escape route from the cycle of consumer culture that pressures people to buy more and more, faster and faster.

Pre-orders represents a key step in a circular economy for fashion. However, other considerations such as material choice, durability, and reverse logistics are also paramount. Read more about the Myriad model here.
